About Us

What is Netzer South Africa?

Netzer South Africa is a Progressive, Zionist youth movement with the aims of engaging and inspiring the youth of our community.

What do we believe in?

The word “Netzer” is an acronym for “Noar Tzioni Reformi” – Reform Zionist Youth. These three words are the foundation of Netzer’s ideology. We believe in teaching Reform Judaism and Progressive Zionism, as well as in enabling our chanichim to become involved in social action as a means of reaching one of our ideals: Tikkun Olam (repair of the world.)

“Netzer” in Hebrew means “shoot“, and thus provides an image of growth, development and fulfilment. These attributes are what we aim to impart on our members, so that they can grow into the young Jewish leaders of the next generation.

What do we do?

Netzer runs year-round activities for chanichim (young participants), madrichim (leaders) and the Progressive communities in South Africa. These activities include mini camps, shabbatot (sleepovers), monthly madrichim meetings, fun peulot (activities) for chanichim, leadership and ideology seminars, family days, shul services, events for the chaggim (festivals) and our highlight of the year, summer camp – Machaneh. Each of these activities focuses on engaging the youth in their community and, of course, having fun!
